Shrimp farmer strangled

A shrimp farmer was strangled by unidentified criminals at his shrimp enclosure at Binerpota beel (water body) in Sadar upazila on Saturday night. The victim was identified as Abdur Rashid Babu, 25, son of Ibrahim Sardar of Komorpur village in the same upazila. Quoting locals police said like other nights, victim Abdur Rashid Babu was sleeping at the shrimp enclosure at Binerpota beel. Criminals entered his room at dead of night and strangled him. Locals found the body early yesterday and informed police. Police rushed to the spot, recovered the body and sent it to the morgue for postmortem. Although a case was filed with Sadar police station but none was arrested. Police quoting victim's parents and locals said there had been a long- standing dispute over a piece of land between the victim and his cousin. The victim might have been killed over the dispute, police suspected. Contacted, Sadar police station officer-in-charge (OC) Shah Jahan Khan said they are trying to arrest the killers. Meanwhile, body of a farmer, who was strangled by unidentified criminals at Modyachar village in Kalkini upazila of Madaripur district, was recovered on Friday, reports UNB. The deceased was identified as Molsem Sarder, 60, of the village. Police said being informed by locals they recovered the body from the Arial Khan River. Family sources said Moslem went missing after some people called him out of his house on Thursday. Police suspected that he might have been killed by his rivals due to village politics. The body was sent to Sadar hospital morgue for autopsy.
