Rana, Sumon on fresh remand

Jubo League activists Rana and Sumon, arrested in the case for May 23 murder of party activist Abu Bakkar Siddik Rasu, have been remanded again. The Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court here granted a three-day remand for Rana Sarkar and Sumon alias 'Petrol' Sumon, said sub-inspector Hipzul Alam Munshi, also the investigation officer (IO) of the case. Earlier police produced the accused in the court seeking five days' remand yesterday, said Nasirul Islam, additional superintendent of police in Natore. Police on May, 31, night arrested Rana and Sumon on specific charges in Rasu killing case from Charghat area in Rajshahi. On the basis of Rana and Sumon's statement police also recovered the pistol used in killing Rasu and two bullets from Rana's business house "Arts of Bangladesh" in Kanaikhali area of the town on the same night. Rana Sarkar, 28, is a son of Abdul Mannan of Kanaikhali area in the town while Sumon alias 'Petrol' Sumon, 25, is son of Abul Kashem of the same area. On May 26, police arrested Nipun, Uzzal and Sazed and recovered a scarf which was used to gag Rasu's mouth before killing, the IO said. On May 29, Chief Judicial Magistrate Liakat Ali Mollah granted a three-day remand for Nipun, Uzzal and Sazed. After the end of remand, all the three were produced in court again seeking seven days' remand on Wednesday noon while Rana and Sumon were produced in court yesterday for five days' remand.
