Aug 17 bomb blast cases in Satkhira
2 charge-sheeted JMB men freed on bail
Two activists of the banned Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), also charge sheeted accused in five cases for August 17 bomb blasts in Satkhira in 2005, were released on bail granted by a court at Satkhira yesterday.
Judge Md Obaidus Sobhan of the District and Sessions Judge's Court granted bail to the two JMB man -- Monowar Hossain Ujjal of Itagachha village and Asadul Haque of Kharibila in Satkhira town.
Police arrested Monowar and Asadul soon after the series blasts in the town on August 17 in 2005 and five cases were filed with Sadar police station in this regard, police said.
The two charge-sheeted JMB men were released on bail granted by the High Court on November 11 in 2010 and police arrested them again the same night.
Earlier the two JMB activists submitted a bail prayer before the District and Sessions Judge's Court.
After a long hearing, Judge Md Obaidus Sobhan granted them bail yesterday.
On August 17 in 2005, pickpocket Rawshan Ali, who went to steal on the premises of Women and Children Repression Prevention Court, saw his neighbour Nasir Uddin Dafadar standing with a bag in hand. As Nasir Uddin left the bag there, Rawshan waited to pick it up later. But shortly after the bag was kept, it blew up.
Five other bombs also exploded simultaneously at five places in the town.
Following Rawshan's lead, police arrested JMB operative Nasir Uddin Dafadar of village Bakal Islampur and then other JMB operatives in Satkhira.
Consequently, law enforcers detected JMB's involvement in the series bomb blasts across the country on August 17 in 2005.
The Criminal Investigation Department ASP Munshi Atiqur Rahman, also investigation officer of five cases for August 17 blasts in Satkhira, submitted supplementary charge sheet against 19 JMB activists including JMB kingpins Shaikh Abdur Rahman, Siddqul Islam Bangla Bhai and Ataur Rahman Sunny (later executed in Jhalakathi judges' murder case) to a court at Satkhira on April 4 in 2006.
The other accused are Nasir, Munna, Khokon, Monowar Hossain Ujjal, Momtaz, Asadul Haque, Belal, Khayer, Sayeed, Nayeem, Noor Ali, Gias, Habib, Fakar Uddin Raji, Palash and Liton.
Of them Nayeem, Raji, Habib, Khayer, Momtaz and Sayeed have been absconding since then.
Trial of the five August 17 series bomb blast cases has been delayed as the prosecution failed to produce either the accused or the witnesses before the court for long.
