Man kills younger, another to die for fratricide

A man 'killed' his younger brother in Gopalganj while another was sentenced to death for similar offence in Bagerhat on Monday. A man was killed allegedly by his elder brother following a family feud at Madhur Nagra village in Kotalipara uapzila of Gopalganj on Monday. The deceased was identified as Hiru Mollah, son of Abul Hossain Mollah of the same village, reports UNB. Officer-in-charge of Kotalipara police station Tota Miah said, Hiru Mollah locked in an altercation with his elder brother Kamal Hossain over a trifling matter Monday morning. At one stage, Kamal Hossain hit in the head of Hiru with a hammer, leaving him critically injured. Hiru Mollah died on the way to the hospital. After the incident Kamal Hossain went into hiding. Police sent the body to Gopalganj Sadar Hospital for autopsy. A murder case was filed with Kotalipara PS in this connection. In Bagerhat, a court sentenced a man to death on Monday for killing his younger brother over land dispute in 1999. The convict was identified as Iliaj Sheikh, son of Asmot Ali Sheikh of Chandipur village in Morelganj upazila. According to the prosecution, elder brother Iliaj hacked his younger brother Sheikh Oliur Rahman to death following an altercation over the possession of a land on March 23 in 1999. Victim's another brother lodged a murder case with Morelganj police in this connection. After examining the records and witnesses, additional district and session court judge Md. Belayet Ullah handed down the verdict. The convict was tried in absentia.
