Death of trainee teacher Anamika
Superintendent of PTI hostel sent to jail
Superintendent of Sunamganj Primary Training Institute (PTI) hostel Abul Quashem Miah was sent to the jail hajat after judicial magistrate Md Abdul Halim rejected his bail prayer in Anamika rape, murder case yesterday.
Abul Quashem was arrested Tuesday afternoon after Subol Das, father of Anamika Das, a government primary schoolteacher also a trainee, filed a case with the Sunamganj Sadar PS, accusing the government-run PTI chief of killing his daughter.
He alleged that the superintendent had raped Anamika before killing and later hung her from the ceiling fan.
The hanging body was recovered from Room 402 of the PTI hostel Saturday last.
The deceased and her sister Dipika Das, also a schoolteacher, were staying at the institute hostel because of training.
Colleagues of the deceased brought the allegation of sexual harassment, rape and killing against the PTI superintendent after the death of Anamika.
However, Quashem refuted those and claimed that he had just stopped her from going out of the hostel on Friday night. Her body was found hanging the next morning.
Meanwhile, a probe team of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education interviewed the family members of Anamika and others including the deputy commissioner and the officer-in-charge of Sunamganj Sadar PS Tuesday.
Deputy secretary, Planning and Development, MA Mazid, who is heading the probe body, said they would file the report shortly.
The teachers and trainees of the institute took out a procession in the town and held a rally at Sunamganj Shaheed Minar Tuesday afternoon demanding punitive measures against the PTI superintendent.
