Six Huji militants jailed in Khulna
A court has sentenced six militants of banned Harkat-ul-Jihad to rigorous imprisonment in a case filed against them under Explosive substances Act.
Md. Sekandar Ali, Judge of the Khulna Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal delivered the Judgment at 5-30 p.m. on Tuesday.
The six convicts are Ali Ahmad, Jahangir Alam, Omar Faruque alias Laden, Abdul Quddus, Abul Kalam Azad alias Bulbul and Md. Amirul Islam.
Ali Ahmed was sentenced to suffer 20 years of RI and fined Tk 20,000, in default, to suffer more two years RI while Jahangir Alam, Omar Faruque alias Laden, Abdul Quddus, Abul Kalam Azad alias Bulbul and Md. Amirul Islam were given 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Tk 10,000 each in default, to suffer more one year in jail.
All the six Huji militants were present at the court judgment.
The prosecution story in brief is that Rapid Action Battalion-6 and police in a joint special operation in Jhenidah, Jessore and Kushtia districts arrested Huji militants Jahangir Alam, Omar Faruque, Abdul Quddus, Abul Kalam Azad and Md. Amirul Islam on October 29 in 2007.
Later, Rab and police arrested Huji leader Ali Ahmad on the same day from his house at Teordaho village under Jhenidah Sadar upazila and recovered 15 grenades from his possession.
S.I. Abul Kashem of Jhenaidah Sadar PS filed a case in this connection as complainant under the explosive Substances Act.
Chargesheet of the case against six accused was submitted on November 29 of the same year.
The case was later transferred to Khulna Speedy Trial Tribunal on December 21 last year.
The judge recorded statements of 15 out of 21 prosecution witnesses during the trial of the case.
