A man who killed his wife on the first day of marriage was jailed for life in Kishoreganj on Monday. Away in Munshiganj, another person committed suicide after killing his wife the same day. A court in Kishoreganj sentenced Suman Mia, 23, son of Faruque Mia of Saheberchar village in Hossainpur upazila to life term imprisonment, reports our correspondent. He was also fined Tk 20,000, in default, to suffer one more year in jail. According to prosecution in brief, Suman Mia married Luna Akter, 19, daughter of Manik Mia of Char Biswanathpur in Hossainpur on 20 April, 2007. He hacked her to death on the first night of marriage, suspecting her pregnant. Meanwhile, a man who allegedly killed his wife over family fued on Saturday in Pakundia upazila surrendered to police the next day. Police and locals said, Selina Parveen, 32, a mother of three, was killed allegedly by her husband Aminul Haque, 45, on Saturday morning at Chorkouna village in Pakundia upazila. Aminul hacked her to death with a sharp axe over family feud and went into hiding, said police. In Munshiganj, a man killed his pregnant wife and later committed suicide at Beurapara village under Tongibari upazila on Monday night, reports our correspondent. Police recovered the body of Kanchan Rani Shil, 32, and her husband Sudeb Das, 40, of Ichhapur village in Sirajdikhan upazila. Officer-in-charge Abdullah of Tongibari police station said Sudeb, a tailor at Betka Bazar, used to reside at his in-laws' house. Police suspect that at one stage of altercation Sudeb might have strangled his wife and later killed himself by hanging from the roof. The couple left behind four daughters.
