Jute, textile workers of pvt mills to agitate from Dec 18
Workers of private owned jute, yarn and textile mills of Khulna-Jessore industrial belt will start a 17-day agitation programme from December 18 to press home their 10-point demand.
The programme came from a meeting held on Monday evening under the banner of Private owned Jute, Yarn and Textile Mills CBA Action Coordination Committee with Md Tayebur Rahman as its convenor.
The 17-day programme till January 4 include call for daylong strike on January 4 in addition to mass contacts, view exchange meetings, rallies in front of all mill gates, demonstrations, public meetings at Khalishpur and Atra industrial belts, protest processions by workers of each mill in their respective areas and submission of memorandum to the prime minister through DC of Khulna.
The 10-point demand of workers include increase in their weekly wage and immediate announcement of wage commission.
Workers will go for an intensified movement including programme for self-immolation if their demands are not met by December 17, said the convenor of the action committee.
Workers of these private owned mills have been working since 1985 only with Tk 560 as weekly wage while workers of state-owned mills are drawing Tk 4,100 for the same nature of work, he said.
This sort of discrimination in payment of weekly wages for the same nature of job must go once for all as it was also one of the poll pledges of the present grand coalition government, he observed.
