BCL men at RU stab one, injure four
A Rajshahi University (RU) student was stabbed and four others were injured Tuesday night as Chhatra League (BCL) men attacked the resident students allegedly for protesting hike in meal charge.
Campus sources said a group of BCL men attacked the students when they were staging a sit-in in front of the vice chancellor's residence at around 9:30pm demanding cancellation of the additional meal charge.
The BCL men, led by RU unit former BCL president Ibrahim Hossain alias Moon, attacked the students with iron rods and hockey sticks, the sources said adding they beat up four of the demonstrators severely and stabbed another.
Mithun, a resident of Bangabandhu Hall, was admitted to the university medical centre with stab injuries.
Several hundred resident students of different halls at Rajshahi University (RU) yesterday noon brought out a procession on the campus protesting meal charge hike and overnight BCL attack.
They alleged that the university authorities were using the BCL cadres to stop students' movement.
