Four firearms seized in Ctg
A Rapid Action Battalion team (Rab) in a drive seized four firearms and four cartridges from a slum in the city yesterday.
On a tip-off, an operation team of Rab-7 headed by Major Abdus Samad, deputy director, conducted a drive in Jumburi slum area on the eastern side of Karnaphuli Shishu Park under Double Mooring police station at around 1:45pm.
The seized arms and ammo include two LG guns, two home-made one barrel guns and 4 rounds of LG cartridges.
They were found in an abandoned condition, said Major Abdus Samad.
We conducted the drive on information that a gang of armed criminals were staying in Jumburi slum. However, none was arrested as sensing the presence of elite force the criminals fled the scene, a Rab official said.
In Gazipur, three live cocktails were recovered from a jungle at Chaiter Para village in Kaliganj upazila yesterday, reports UNB.
Police said some young villagers saw the cocktails, wrapped in red scotch tape, lying in an abandoned condition in the morning.
As a youth tried to use one cocktail thinking it as cricket ball, it exploded.
Locals later informed the matter to police, who rushed in and recovered it.
Abdul Awal, office-in-charge (OC) of Kaliganj PS said robbers might have put the cocktails in secret place for using it for robbery.
