Accused confesses to killing little Mila in Rangpur

The alleged killer of mine-year-old Farzana Akter Mila of Ekabbarpur under Pirganj upazila in a statement to court on Wednesday confessed to killing the girl on October 13 in a bush as she tried to scream during a rape attempt. Acting on a tip off police arrested accused Shajahan of the same village from north Borovita under Jaldhaka upazila on November 29. A magistrate recorded the confessional statement of Shaheen, said Assistant Police Superintendent (ASP) Md. Shahidullah Kowsar. Mila, a class three student, was allegedly kidnapped by Shaheen, 33, on October 13 on her way to a private teacher's house. Her whereabouts could not be known till police recovered her body on October 15 from a paddy field at the village. Police said they arrested rickshaw-van puller Aynal Hoque first. The van puller told police that Shaheen kidnapped Mila while she was going for private tuition by his rickshaw van. Later police arrested Shaheen's wife Shilpi Begum as Shaheen went into hiding after the October 13 incident. Shilpi during primary interrogation disclosed to police that Shaheen admitted to her that he killed Mila. People of Ekabbarpur under Maderganj union in Pirganj upazila held demonstrations at Maderganj and Pirganj after the killing and demanded arrest of the killer of Mila.
