One to die, 6 get life for murders
A court here on Wednesday sentenced a man to death and three of his accomplices to life tern imprisonment for killing his wife at Kodalia village under Mollarhat upazila of the district on April 8, 2006.
Convict Jamal Molla, 42, is son of Nazir Molla of the village.
Judge of Additional District and Session Judge Court-2 Mohammad Rezaul Karim also fined Tk 10,000 to each of the lifers, in default, to suffer one more year in jail.
The lifers are -- Hedayet Molla, 40, Motahar Molla, 46, and Baizid Molla, 35. All of them hailed from the same village.
According to the prosecution, on the night of April 8, 2006, Jamal Molla and three of his accomplices slaughtered Parvin Akter, 30, in the kitchen of her house as she refused to file a false rape case against Jamal's rivals.
On April 23, 2006, Zahid Sheikh, brother of victim Parvin, lodged a case with Bagerhat court accusing Jamal, of murder.
In Madaripur, 3 people were sentenced to life term imprisonment for killing a man at Darshana village under Kalkini upazila of the district on September 8, 2008, reports a correspondent.
The convicts are Samir Kumar Roy, 35, Porimol Bala Poritosh, 16, and Amal Bala, 37.
Judge of District and Session Judge Court-3 Mohammad Ataur Rahman passed the verdict yesterday afternoon. The court also fined each Tk 10,000, in default, to suffer another one year in jail.
According to the case statements, on September 8, 2008, Samir, Porimol and Amal slaughtered Prokash Dey and dumped his body in a pond.
Of the convicts, Parimol is still absconding.
