Nazirpur massacre day observed
Nazirpur massacre day was observed in Pabna Sadar upazila on Wednesday, paying homage to the martyrs and demanding trial of war criminals.
On December 1, 1971, Pakistani occupation army with the help of their local collaborators (rajakars) killed at least 62 people at Nazirpur village. They later dumped the bodies into two ditches at the village.
The occupation army and their local collaborators looted around 100 houses at the village and set them afire, said Abdul Hamid, 86, who was also tortured by the occupation army at the village on the day.
Local people and freedom fighters observed the day by holding a discussion meeting at Nazirpur High School ground. Chaired by freedom fighter Abdul Hamid, the meeting was addressed, among others, by Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangshad Pabna district unit commander Habibur Rahman Habib, freedom fighters Abdul Baten, Alhaj Abdul Latif Salim, Abul Kashem, Mukul Hossain and Tarikul Islam Nilu.
The speakers urged the government to build a memorial for those who were killed by the Pakistani occupation army and their local collaborators at the village on December 1, 1971.
"The masterminds behind the mass killing are yet to get punished,", the speakers said, urging the government to immediately arrest the culprits.
The people of Nazirpur also hailed the government for taking steps to try the war criminals.
They demanded exemplary punishment of those who killed their near and dear ones on December1, 1971.
