Indian Khasias cross border, loot paddy

Staff Correspondent, Sylhet.
Indian Khasia people backed by Border Security Force (BSF) intruded into Bangladesh territory through Amswapnapur border yesterday morning and took away aman paddy from about an acre of land. Immediately after the incident, BDR proposed an urgent flag meeting, but the Indian border guards did not respond as of 6:00pm yesterday. Tamabil BDR camp commander Subedar Md Yunus said over 100 Indians entered about 150 yards inside Bangladesh through Amswapnapur border at around 10:00am and started cutting aman paddy on around one acre of land at the bordering village. Despite repeated requests, the BSF personnel and Khasia tribesmen did not leave the area until 2:00pm, he added. "The border guards of both countries exchanged heated words as the BSF men were guarding the Indian tribesmen," Wahab Ali of Amswapnapour village said, adding that the Indians took away paddy from their land. Contacted, Major Abdullah Al Mamun of 21 Rifles Battalion confirmed the incident. He said they wanted to hold an emergency flag meeting on the incident, but the BSF did not respond.
