Another Shibir man held from campus

Motihar police yesterday arrested an accused in the case for killing Rajshahi University (RU) unit Chhatra League (BCL) worker Faruque Hossain. The arrestee is Ruhul Amin, a member of RU unit Shibir and also a third year student of Marketing department. A resident of Shaheed Habibur Rahman Hall, Ruhul Amin is one of the accused in Faruque Hossain killing case. RU unit BCL secretary of suspended committee Mazedul Islam Opu filed the case on February 9 following violent Shibir attack that left Faruque dead and around 100 other BCL activists injured. Investigative Officer (IO) of the case, Sub-Inspector (SI) Rakibul Islam told this correspondent that Ruhul Amin is an accused (no- 28) of Case No-5 of 14 cases filed against Shibir men with Motihar police station in connection with the violence. Sources said, hearing the news of Ruhul's arrival on the campus, a group of BCL activists chased him in front of Rabindra Bhaban at noon. At one stage, Ruhul took shelter at his department office (Marketing) at the Rabindra Bhaban. On information, Motihar police rushed to the department and arrested Ruhul at around 12.30pm. Saiful Islam alias Sohag, a BCL leader of Shaheed Habibur Rahman Hall alleged that Ruhul Amin took part in February 9 violence and went into hiding soon after the incident. Contacted, RU Proctor Prof Chowdhury Muhammad Zakaria said the Shibir man was arrested for his alleged involvement in February 9 violence.
