Eyes of 'BNP man' gouged out in Bagerhat

Criminals gouged out eyes of a man, claimed by BNP as its activist, at North Phulhata village in Morelganj upazila during hartal hours on Tuesday. The deceased was identified as Lavlu Kazi, 35, son of Abul Hossain Kazi of the village. BNP, in a press release yesterday said that Lavlu is an activist of Baharbunia union unit Jubo Dal. It alleged that Jubo League activists mercilessly beat him and gouged out his both eyes during hartal hours at 11:00am on Tuesday. But police said, Lavlu was called out from his house by a gang, led by Habibur Rahman alias Hobi Dakat who removed his eyes leaving him seriously injured at 10:30am. He was admitted to Bagerhat hospital. BNP Secretary General Khandaker Delwar Hossain in a statement yesterday condemned the attack and gouging out eyes of Jubo Dal activist Lavlu by Jubo League `cadres` during hartal at Phulhata in Morelganj. The BNP leader demanded immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of the attackers. Delwar also condemned killing of BNP activist Siraj Mia by police at Raipura upazila in Narsingdi during opposition-called strike on November 30. BNP said Siraj Mia, joint secretary general of Chararalia unit Jubo Dal, was rounded up by police during hartal and tortured to death in custody.
