15 injured as BCL, Shibir clash in Moulvibazar

At least 15 people including five policemen were injured in a clash between the activists of Chhatra League (BCL) and Chhatra Shibir in Baralekha upazila in the district yesterday noon. Of the injured, pedestrian Ali Ahamed and police constable Zitu Miah have been admitted to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital in critical condition. According to Baralekha police and witnesses, Delwer Hussain, a Shibir leader of Baralekha, went to local Senior Judicial Magistrate Court for hearing of a petition case. About 30 to 35 Shibir activists were also along with Delwer. At that time, several BCL activists were also present on the court premises. At one stage, the Shibir leader and plaintiff of the case Delwer entered the police barrack in the court premises which angered the BCL activists. When the BCL activists protested, the Shibir activists attacked them with lethal weapons creating a panic in the area. During the attack, Sub-Inspector (SI) Akbar Hussain, SI Kaykobad, traffic police member Manik Das, SI (court) Tapas Das, police constable Zitu Miah, local trader Geda Miah and pedestrian Ali Ahamed, among others, were injured. Of the injured Akbar Hussain Kaykobad, Manik Das, Tapas Das and Geda Miah were admitted to Baralekha upazila health complex. Besides, constable Zitu Miah and pedestrian Ali Ahamed were sent to Sylhet Osmani Medical College and Hospital in critical condition. Later, agitated BCL activists attacked and damaged two shops owned by Shibir men. Local MP Shahab Uddin Ahmed visited Baralekha upazila health complex to see the injured there.
