Hearing on charge framing against 57 on January 17

The special court-13, set up at Dinajpur Sector headquarters, yesterday fixed January 17 next year for hearing on charge framing against 57 mutineers of Dinajpur-2 Rifles Battalion. The same court also fixed February 1 for hearing on charge framing against 13 mutineers of the sector headquarters. The trial of 70 mutineers--57 from Dinajpur Rifles Battalion-2 and 13 from Dinajpur Sector headquarters--resumed at the special court headed by Sector Commander Col Saleh Ahmad at 10:00am yesterday. Two other members of the court are Lt Col Mahaful Alam and Major Didar Al Latif. Deputy Attorney General Biswajit Roy was also present. Prosecutor Lt Col Ershad Hossain of Dinajpur-2 Battalion read out the allegations against 57 mutineers. After hearing the charges, the court fixed January 17 for hearing on charge framing against the accused. Major Abdul Wazed of Dinajpur Sector read out the allegations against 13 accused of the sector. After hearing, the court fixed February I for hearing on charge framing against the BDR rebels. Police produced the mutineers in the special court amid tight security. After hearing the charges brought against the rebels, the court sent them to jail. The court started trial proceedings on Saturday. At the beginning, the complainant, Subedar Major Shamsul Alam of Dinajpur 2 Battalion, urged the court to issue arrest warrants against 44 other accused in the mutiny case that he filed in May last year. The court then ordered arrest of the accused.
