Ruling party men beat up journo, student
Ruling party cadres seriously injured a journalist in Manikganj while BCL activists beat up a student at Rajshahi University on Friday night.
In Manikganj, a journalist was beaten up by ruling party cadres at Singair Bazar on Friday night, reports our correspondent.
Victim Mobarak Hossain was Singair upazila correspondent of the daily Jai Jai Din.
Witnesses said, AL cadres numbering 6-7 including Monju, 28, son of Abdul Monnaf of Purba Basta village and Salam, 45, son of Minaj Uddin of Dhalla village of Singair upazila, attacked Mobarak with iron rods and sharp weapons at around 10:30pm at Singair bazar where he was talking with a man.
Mobarak was taken to Singair Clinic Diagnostic Centre with head injury.
Tusher Kumer Barman, a doctor of the clinic, said Mobarak received serious head injury. He was given six stitchings in his head.
Earlier at 7:00pm, the AL cadres beat up Ismail Hossain Khan, owner of Shahriar Pharmacy of Basta Bazar.
Journalists of Manikganj Press Club and Manikganj district unit of Bangladesh Journalist Association condemned the attack on journalist.
They demanded immediate punishment to the culprits.
In another incident, a group of Chhatra League (BCL) activists of Rajshahi University (RU) unit on Friday night beat up a student of the university, reports RU correspondent.
Sources said BCL activists, led by Emdad Hossain, an eighth semester student of Management department and also a resident student of Shaheed Habibur Rahman Hall, seriously beat up Nazmul Haque of the same hall and also a fourth year student of Social Work department in front of the hall at around 8:30pm.
Hearing the news, Nazmul's friends rushed to the spot and rescued him. They took Nazmul to the university medical centre for treatment.
Nazmul alleged that Emdad along with a group of BCL cadres beat him as he collided with Emdad while entering mosque of the hall for Juma prayers.
He said the BCL cadres also threatened him to drive out of the hall.
BCL activist Emdad Hossain later said the incident took place due to misunderstanding with Nazmul.
