Explosion in sewer hurts 6
At least six people were injured in a blast inside the sewer at Syed Ali Chamber Road in the district town yesterday.
Police and witnesses said the explosion took place with a huge bang at around 5:30pm inside drain near DB Plaza, a shopping mall, creating panic in the area.
The injured included passersby, shoppers and bus passengers. They were sent to Narayanganj General Hospital for treatment.
Firefighters immediately rushed to the spot to douse the fire caused by the blast.
Ahsanulla Kabir, deputy director of Narayanganj Fire Service and Civil Defence said the blast might have occurred due to leake in the gas pipeline.
