Deposition of PWs recorded in 2 cases

Sylhet Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal on Monday recorded deposition of proscution witnesses (PWs) in two cases against the seven accused for the series blasts of August 17 of 2005 in the district town of Habiganj. Deposition could not be recorded in three other cases as none of the prosecution witnesses were present. Chief of the outlawed Islamist outfit JMB Moulana Saidur Rahman, his son and other operatives were produced on the dock. The librarian of Habiganj DC office library, Mozaher Tarafder and the then Nazir of the same office (now treasury accountant) Nozir Hossain gave their deposition in the case for the blast that took place near the DC office. One Md Ayub Ali of village Anandapur also gave his deposition in the other case for the blast near the Eidgah area. Tribunal judge Mahbub-ul-Islam also set December 1 for recording deposition of the rest of the witnesses, court sources said. The tribunal on October 14 framed charges against the seven accused in the cases for the series blasts on August 17 of 2005 in Habiganj town. Seven blasts took place at spots like judge court building, opposite to Sonali Bank, municipal market etc which followed filing of five cases. Acting on a tip off, police arrested Moulana Saidur Rahman's son AHM Shamim 22 days after the blasts. He was nabbed from IB Computer Centre at Tinkona pukur par in the district town on September 7 of 2005. Police also seized some Islamist books and CDs from the computer centre. His father Saidur remained absconding for years and was caught in the capital several months ago. The CID submitted chargesheets against seven people including Moulana Saidur Rahman and his son Shamim in December of 2009. The other accused are JMB opereatives Azizul Islam Gazi alias Hanif of Bania in Koira upazila under Khulna district (already serving 10 years RI in a blast case of Sylhet), Shafiqul Islam Nazim of Sherpur in Bogra, Hafez Huzaifa alias Sumon of Kathal Rajbari of Trishal upazila in Mymensingh, Belal alias Tamim of Baniapara of Jaipurhat and Salah Uddin alias Salehin.
