BCL leader held for vandalising magistrate's car

Police arrested a BCL leader in Brahmanbaria for vandalising a magistrate's car and two activists in Kishoreganj with looted cash and gold ornaments on Sunday. Police picked up a local Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader for damaging a magistrate's car from Nabinagar upazila bus stand area Sunday evening, reports UNB. The arrestee was identified as Momin Mia, convener of a faction of Nabinagar municipal BCL unit. Police said Momin was drunk when he damaged the car of Judicial Magistrate Morshed-al-Mamun who was returning to the district town. They said Momin also vandalised some auto-rickshaws in the bus stand area. The magistrate lodged a complaint with the Nabinagar police in this connection. Later, police went to the bus stand area and arrested Momin. In Kishoreganj, police arrested three BCL activists with Tk 9 lakh and four tolas of gold ornaments from Nagua area in the town on Sunday night. The arrestees were identified as Rasel Mia, 32, Rafiqul Islam Sonet, 33 and Towhidul Islam Sujan, 32, of Nagu area, reports our correspondent. According to police and locals, a gang entered the house of Nure Alam, a businessman of Nagua on Friday night breaking open the door and took away Tk. 9 lakh cash and four tolas of gold ornaments. The following day Nure Alam filed a case with Kishoreganj Sadar police station in this connection. Mir Musharraf Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kishoreganj sadar police station said, a group of police raided a house in Nagua on Sunday midnight and arrested on suspection BCL activists Rasel, Rafiq and Towhid. Following their confession police recovered Tk 9 lakh and 4 tolas gold ornaments from the house of Pradip of Nagua area at 2:00am of the night. The three arrestees were sent to jail yesterday, the OC added.
