'Rapist' beaten to death in Pabna
One person was beaten to death and another injured by locals at Char Shibrampur under Pabna Sadar upazila yesterday morning on charge of raping a girl after abduction.
The dead is Azibor Rahman, 40, while the injured is Abul Hasnat of Char Shibrampur.
Locals alleged that Azibor and his accomplices picked up the girl from their house at the village at around 8:00am. They took the girl to the sluice gate area, violated her and left the scene leaving the girl there, they added.
"Hearing the news, we caught Azibor and Hasnat and severely beat them up", locals said, adding that other members of the gang fled the village.
On information, police went to Char Shibrampur village and rescued Azibor and Hasnat. They took the two to Pabna General Hospital where Azibor succumbed to his injuries. The law enforcers also rescued the girl and took her to the hospital.
The girl told officer-in-charge of Pabna Sadar Police Station Md Mohosinuzzaman that a gang of four led by Azibor kidnapped her from their house at gunpoint, took her to the sluice gate area and raped her. A case was filed with the police station.
Refusing the allegation of rape of the girl, Azibor family said it was a pre-planed murder.
Azibor's father Md Wayez Sardar said Nurul and his men beat his son dead as he tried to prevent them from steeling trees from the embankment at the village a few days ago.
Pabna Police Superintendent Jahangir Hossain Matobbar said, “Different sources informed me that the murder was a sequel to a long standing feud between Azibor and Nurul." The matter is under investigation, he added.
