Schoolgirl killed after rape

A schoolgirl was killed after rape in Habiganj on Sunday while another abducted in Thakurgaon was rescued by police the day before. Criminals killed a schoolgirl after rape at Baniagaon village in Bahubal upazila of Habiganj Sunday night. The deceased was identified as Shumi Akhter, 15, a JSC examinee of Mirpur Faizunnessa Girls' High School and daughter of Iman Ali of the village, reports our staff correspondent in Sylhet. Police quoting family sources said Sumi went missing in the evening when she was returning to her house from a neighbour's house. Later, locals found her body lying beside a graveyard only 100 yards of her house at night. On information, police recovered the body and sent it to the upazila health complex for autopsy. Police later arrested four people including the son of Mirpur UP chairman in connection with the incident. The arrestees are UP chairman's son Ruhel, Saddam, Jasimuddin and Sohel. In Thakurgaon, a schoolgirl, who was kidnapped from her house at Jagannathpur village in Sadar upazila on November 14, was rescued on Saturday. The victim was identified as Laboni Akter, 14, a student of class eight of RK State High School of the village. Police said Yusuf Ali, son of Razzak Ali and his accomplice Dulu of nearby Khagarabari village coming in a motorbike kidnapped Laboni while she was alone at her house. On secret information, police raided the house of Yusuf early Saturday morning and rescued the girl. Police later managed to arrest Yusuf. A case was filed on this connection.
