Ras Leela festival in Kamolganj today

Indigenous Manipuri community will celebrate 'Ras Leela Festival' from today at two temples in Kamolganj upazila of the district. Members of the community have taken all preparation for a colourful festival. Vishnupuriya sect of the community will celebrate their 168th festival at Shibbazar 'jura' mondop of Madhabpur. On the other hand, the Meithai sect of the community has arranged their festival at Adampur temple. This sect has been observing the festival since 1986. The three-day Ras Leela Festival programmes included kirton, rakhal dance, Radha dance and discussion meeting on Lord Sree Krishna. The programme will start in the early hour of the day. An attractive village fair has also been arranged at the Manipuri temples premises on the occasion. Vendors from different areas have already come with their products mainly handicraft items and toys. Ras Mela at Dublarchar Meanwhile, a three-day Ras Mela festival began at Dublarchar in Bagerhat on Friday amid tight security, reports our staff correspondent in Khulna. Ras Mela is one of the biggest traditional festival which Hindu community celebrates every year at Dublarchar under Sharankhola upazila of Bagerhat. Several thousand people, irrespective of caste and creed, have joined the annual festival. Most of them will take a dip in the Bay during full moon known as Ras Purnima. Devotees believe that taking a bath in the Bay during the festival wipes out all their sins. Ras Mela programme will continue till November 21. The three-day festival includes songs in praise of Lord Krishna and Radha, Ghat Puja and other religious functions, cultural performances and holy bath in the sea.
