PCJSS, UPDF trade fire
A gunfight between the cadres of Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity (PCJSS) and United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) took place in remote Dewanpara area under Dighinala Police Station of Khagrachhari district yesterday.
Sources in the security forces said the gunfight started at around 4:00am and continued until noon. But they could not confirm any casualties in the clash as of filing of this report at 5:00pm yesterday.
Contacted, Major Javed of Khagrachhari BDR Sector said a gunfight between PCJSS and UPDF took place in the remote area of Dighinala upazila, but he also could not confirm any casualties.
Ujjal Smriti Chakma, Khagrachhari district coordinator of UPDF, blamed PCJSS for launching armed attack on his party men.
He said the PCJSS cadres opened fire, prompting our men to retaliate. He declined to say anything about gunfight casualty.
While contacted over cellphone, PCJSS leader Sudakar Tripura said he is not aware of the gun battle.
In a statement in the evening, UPDF Khagrachhari unit Publicity Secretary Niron Chakma condemned the attack on his party men and urged the authorities concern to investigate the matter.
