Pirates loot 2 boats in the Jamuna
Pirates looted valuables worth Tk. 30 lakh from passengers of two boats in Jamuna River in Sadar upazila here on Saturday evening.
Victims said two boats carrying over 200 people left Sanandabari terminal of Rajibpur upazila of Kurigram for Phulchhari upazila of Gaibandha in the afternoon.
A gang of pirates chased the boats at Kachirchar in Sadar upazila.
Sensing trouble, the boats tried to speed away, but the criminals caught the boats and swooped on passengers.
They hit three people, including a boatman Taher Ali, and looted the goods of the passengers at gun point, leaving three people injured.
The injured were admitted to Rajibpur upazila health complex.
Phulchhari police later recovered a boat, used by pirates, from a char in Jamuna River in an abandoned condition.
