The Buddhist community celebrated Kathin Chibar Daan (yellow robes offering ceremony) at Yongdo Buddhist Monastery here on Saturday. Chithoyai Marma, a devotee who went to the festival, said this ceremony can be observed at any time between Aswini Purnima and Karthiki Purnima in the months of October and November. The Buddhist community celebrates the festival in defferent Buddhist monasteries on deferent days. The Chibars (robes) are made from cotton and finally sewed to make Tri-Chibar (three robes). It is called 'Kathin' (difficult) because of several preconditions that must be fulfilled, Choya Chakma said. Khagrachhari Hill District Council Chairman Kujendra Lal Tripura, Mong Circle Chief Raza Shaching Pru, Khagrachhari Upazila Chairman Shana Alam and district Buddhist leaders were among others attended the function.
