9 outlaws held in 3 days in Pabna
Two more outlaws were arrested in the district on Saturday night raising the total to nine in three days since Thursday.
Ataikula police arrested the two from a brick field at Puthigara village of Ataikula at about 10:00 at night.
The arrestees are Md Mantu,38, of village Puthigara and Md Ismail Pramanik,35, of village Tailkupi in Ataikula. Both are hardened operatives of outlawed PBCP Janajudhha faction, police said.
Police on Friday arrested a top leader of a faction of outlawed Sarbahara Party from Khalilipur Bazar in Sujanagar upazila. Arrestee Abdul Gafur alias Pania Gafur, 57 is son of late Pashan Sheikh of village Mirpur, Dhalarchar of Bera upazila in the district.
Gafur is the top leader of outlawed Sarbahara faction in Dhalarchar, a remote area used as sanctuary by the outlaws in Pabna and also the main accused in sub-inspector Hedayet Ullah murder case, police said.
Sub-inspector Hedayet, then posted at Bera police station, was killed in a 'gunfight' between Gafur and his cohorts on September 11, 2000. Gafur went into hiding after the incident. Later the Rajshahi Speedy Trial Tribunal sentenced him to life term imprisonment for the murder 6 years ago.
Earlier, on Thursday, police arrested 6 outlawed operatives of Purba Banglar Communist Party (PBCP), Janajudhha faction including a regional leader from Kishtopur village of the district.
Four or five other criminals managed to flee the spot sensing presence of law enforcers, police said.
The arrestees were identified as Rafikul Islam alias Kaincha Rafik, 38, the regional leader of Janajuddha faction of village Vulbaria, his associates Md. Mansur Ali, 32, of village Tailkupi, Md. Abdul Hannan, 26, of village Hatbaria, Md. Abdul Baten, 29, of village Bamondanga in Santhia upazila of Pabna, Faruk Bapery, 30, of village Terochar in Barisal district and Md. Nizam Uddin Pramanik, 30, of village Puthigara of Pabna Sadar upazila.
Officer-in-charge of Ataikula police station Md. Sirajul Islam Chowdhury said police arrested the six from a spot adjacent to Kishtopur graveyard when they were holding a secret meeting.
