BNP hartal protesting killing of JCD leader

Leaders and activists of district BNP and front organisations observed a half-day hartal in the town yesterday protesting the killing of local Chhatra Dal leader Mehedi Hasan Parosh. Shops and trading centres at all the markets in the town remained shut while road communication with different districts from Lalmonirhat came to a halt during the hartal period. But the trains from Lalmonirhat railway station was normal. Rab, police were deployed at all the sensitive points but no untoward incident occurred during the hartal, police said. BNP blamed Awami League for killing Mehedi Hasan Parosh,28, son of late Nur Islam of Saptana Bazar area in the town on Thursday. “BNP observed half day hartal yesterday protesting the killing of JCD leader and demanding arrest and exemplary punishment to his killers,” said district BNP secretary Hafizur Rahman Babla. However, Lalmonirhat district BCL president Khaleque Babu and Secretary Mehedi Hasan said at a press conference on Friday that JCD leader Parosh was killed likely by his friends and associates. “AL or its front organisations are not to be blamed for the killing. But Lalmonirhat BNP is trying to shift blame on AL as they want to create chaos in the town,” he said. Police have already arrested three suspected youths who were friends of late Parosh and all of them are linked to BNP politics, he said in the press conference. However, Hafizur Rahman Babla said that the three arrestees did not belong to any BNP organisation.
