Special agri programme for 5 flood-hit dists
The government will launch a Tk 50 crore special agricultural rehabilitation programme today for 3.85 lakh farmers affected by flash floods in the last boro season.
The amount has already been sent to the district level committees in the five affected districts. The districts are Sunamganj, Sylhet, Moulvibazar, Netrakona and Kishoreganj, officials said.
Each of the listed farmers will get 25 kg urea, 12.5 kg triple super phosphate (TSP), 12.5 kg murate of potash (MoP) and 10 kg seeds.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to formally inaugurate the programme at a function at Tahirpur upazila headquarters in Sunamganj while Finance Minister AMA Muhith, Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury and Suranjit Sengupta MP are expected to attend the programme.
The programme has been launched after a huge loss of the boro paddy in the districts due to repeated floods and rolling down of waters from the upstream in India during the last boro season with around Tk 1127 crore crop loss in Sunamganj district alone.
Additional Director of Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Sylhet division-Dulal Chandra Sarker said "Out of the total Tk 50 crore, Tk 38.8 crore has been sanctioned for Sylhet division including Tk 25.8 crore for Sunamganj district. The allocation for Sylhet is Tk 8.8 crore and Tk 4.1 crore for Moulvibazar."
Among the affected, the highest 2.05 lakh farmers have already been listed in Sunamganj district while the figure being 70,000 in Sylhet and 40,000 in Kishoreganj.
Lists of 35,000 farmers in each of Netrakona and Moulvibazar districts have also been prepared by the agriculture officials.
"Although some irregularities were detected in the preparation of list of affected farmers in Sunamganj district, they were corrected without delay", said Dulal Chandra Sarker yesterday.
