Seven Shibir men held in Satkhira, Rajshahi

Seven Shibir leaders and activists have been arrested in Satkhira and Rajshahi on separate charges. Police arrested six Islami Chhatra Shibir leaders and activists on charges of planning subversive activities from a dormitory beside Jamaat office in Ashashuni upazila headquarters Sunday midnight. The arrestees were identified as Rezanul Karim, 21, upazila Shibir vice president and ex-president Abdur Rahman, 20, Shibir activists-Ashikuzzaman, 17, Jubair Hossain, 15, Al-Amin, 15, and Habibur Rahman, 21. Acting on a tip-off, police raided the dormitory while the shibir leaders and activists were holding a clandestine meeting there and arrested them, reports UNB. Officer-in-charge of Ashashuni police station Fazlur Rahman said the six leaders and activists were shown arrested in a case filed by a sub-inspector of the PS on March 2 on charge of conspiring against the government. In Rajshahi, police arrested a Shibir leader from Rajshahi Government College campus yesterday noon in connection with the February violence at Rajshahi University (RU). The arrestee was identified as Shah Alam, the college unit general secretary of Shibir and a fourth year student of geography and environmental science, reports our staff correspondent. Hailed from Naogaon, Alam got involved with Shibir and took part in violent Shibir activities at different RU dormitories and attack on police on February 8, said Shahadat Hossain, OC of Boalia police station. He was hiding since the incident. He was held at around 1:00pm, said the OC adding the arrestee would be handed over to Motihar police. In February Shibir attacks, Chhatra League worker Faruk Hossain was killed and around 100 were injured. After the incidents, around 14 cases were filed against Jamaat and Shibir leaders and workers, said police.
