Two 'snatchers,' one 'cow lifter' beaten to death

Two suspected snatchers and an alleged cow lifter have been beaten to death in Dinajpur and Manikganj. A mob beat dead two people while they were trying to snatch motorbikes at Ramdubi in Sadar upazila of Dinajpur Sunday night. The identities of the deceased, aged around 28 to 30, could not be known immediately, reports UNB. Police said, a gang of muggers numbering 7-8 were preparing to snatch motorcycles in the area at 9:00pm. Hearing the news, locals caught two of the snatchers red-handed and beat them mercilessly, leaving one dead on the spot and another severely injured. On information, police rushed to the spot and rescued the other man from the angry mob. Later, the injured snatcher died on the way to Dinajpur Medical College and Hospital. In Manikganj, an alleged cow lifter was beaten to death at Mokimpur village under Sadar upazila early yesterday, reports our correspondent. Locals said four people went to the house of Geda Mia of Mokimpur village at around 1:30 am. The house members started shouting when they saw them entering the cow's shelter. Hearing their shouting, the neighbours rushed to the spot and caught one red-handed. The angry mob later beat the cow lifter dead on the spot, the locals said. In Bagerhat, police arrested three muggers while they were hijacking a microbus from Railroad area of the district town Saturday night. The arrestees were identified as Shahabuddin Sardar, 22, son of Billal Sardar of Narail district, Shimul Sheikh, 23, son of Musa Mia and Rais Sheikh, 20, son of Asrab Ali of Gopalganj district. Police said, on a secret information, they launched a drive and arrested the three criminals while they were hijacking the microbus from a stand in the area. Two others - Joy, 25, and Shariful Sheikh, 26, - however, managed to flee the scene.
