The special court-15 yesterday fixed December 19 for framing charges against 23 mutineers of 18 Rifles Battalion under Rangamati sector while the special court-13
recorded statements of 17 prosecution witnesses in the case against 24 rebels of Lalmonirhat 31 Rifles Battalion under Rangpur sector the same day.
Our Rangamati correspondent reported that all the 23 accused were produced in the three-member special court headed Chittagong Sector Commander Col Zahedur Rahman. Two other members are Lt Col Md Abdun Nur and Maj Golam Mostafa-al-Mamun.
Prosecutor Lt Col Mehedi Hassan, commanding officer of 18 Rifles Battalion, read out the charges in presence of the accused. He alleged that the accused, BDR men revolved against their officers at the battalion headquarters on February 26, 2009, looted firearms from armoury and attacked the residences of the then battalion commander and other officers.
The mutineers are Nayek Habibur Rahman, Lance Nayek Mominur Rahman, Nayek Abdul Haque, Nayek Zakir Hossain, Lance nayeks (signal) Mir Mizanur Rahman, Ramzan Ali and Solaiman Ahmed, Assistant Lance Nayek Kazi Enamul Karim, sepoys Mizanur Rahman, Rafiqul Islam, Hadiuzzaman, Abu Syed, Aladin Hossain, Kamruzzaman, Shahin Ahmed and Abdur Razzak, Assistant Havilder Selim Reza, habilders Monirul Islam, Amir Hossain and Altaf Hossain, nayeks Azizul Islam and Azahar Hossain and Subeder Major Md Shah Alam.
In Lalmonirhat, the special court-13 yesterday recorded statements of 17 prosecution witnesses in the mutiny case filed aganst 24 BDR men of 31 Rifles Battalion, reports our correspondent.
Of the accused, 17 admitted their involvement in the mutiny while the rest claimed innocence before the court headed by Dinajpur Sector Commander Col Muhammad Saleh Ahmad. Two others members are Lt Col Mahfuz Alam and Major Didar Al-Latif. Commanding Officer of Lalmonirhat 31 Rifles Battalion Lt Col Aslam Hossain is the prosecutor.
Deputy Attorney General Biswajit Roy and special public prosecutors advocate Rezaul Karim and Rafiqul Islam Mithu were present during trial proceedings.
The then officer-in-charge of Lalmonirhat Sadar Police Station Foyezur Rahman filed two separate cases with the Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court against 24 mutineers of 31 Rifles Battalion. The mutineers were later arrested and produced before the court that sent them to jail hajat.
According to the case statement, the BDR men revolted against their officers and took control of the battalion headquarters on February 26, 2009. They also vandalised doors, windows of the battalion headquarters and fired at least 150 blank shots.
