Two get 17 yrs RI in arms case
A court here sentenced two people to 17 years rigorous imprisonment (RI) yesterday for possessing arms.
The convicts are Hazrat Ali, 30, son of late Siraj Ali of Nansri village in Karimganj upazila and Lokman, 25, son of Arab Ali, of Kouaharti village in Katiadi upazila.
According to prosecution, a police team from Karimganj police station on a secret information raided Nansri Ukla Beel (water body) on 8 August 2006 morning and arrested Hazrat Ali with a pipegun and Lokman with a Kartuj from the spot.
The following day police filed with Karimganj police station an arms case in the connection.
Tabassum Islam, second additional district and session judge handed down the verdict yesterday.
Of the convicts, Lokman is in jail while Hazrat Ali is still at large.
