Farzana placed on two-day remand
A Chittagong court here on Tuesday placed a young woman on two-day remand in a case filed for throwing acid on two teenage girls on October 2.
The court of Metropolitan Magistrate Azizul Hoque granted the remand against Sharmin Farzana Saki who was shown arrested in the case on October 22 after she confessed to throwing acid on her two cousins, said the Assistant Commissioner of Prosecution Nirmalendu Bikash Chakrabarty.
On October 2, three young girls including two sisters identified as Muntaha Karina alias Karin, 19 and Salsabil Taslim, 17, and their cousin Sharmin Farzana Saki, 23, were injured in an acid attack. The incident took placed at around 5am when they were sleeping at their residence on the third floor of an apartment at Joynagar under Panchlaish police station.
Sharmin on October 22 confessed to police that jealousy forced her to throw acid on her two cousins.
Sharmin said she was jealous of her younger cousin Muntaha since her marriage was fixed with a person belonging to a good family and she (Muntaha) was prettier than her.
Sharmin also admitted that she put a few drops of acid on her own face in a bid to prove herself innocent.
Investigation Officer (IO) of the case Sub Inspector (SI) Md Aziz Ahmed said they will try to find during the remand whether any other culprits are involved in the incident.
Meanwhile, in Bagerhat, a housewife received burn injuries in an acid attack by criminals at Kashimpur village in Sadar upazila Sunday night, reports UNB.
The injured was identified as Ruma Begum, 28, wife of Mahbub Sheikh of the village.
Police said some unidentified criminals threw acid on Ruma at her sleep on Sunday night, leaving her seriously injured.
Police suspected that the acid was thrown as a sequel to previous enmity.
