<i>Abductors kill 4-year-old boy just for Tk 5 lakh</i>

Body of a 4-year-old boy, abducted by criminals three days ago, was recovered from under a bridge at Syamgati village in Belkuchi upazila yesterday. Victim Nahid was son of Harunur Rashid, a grocer of the village. Police said criminals abducted Nahid from his residence on October 31 and later demanded Tk five lakh as ransom. The abductors strangled Nahid as his parents did not comply with their demand, said OC of Belkuchi PS Mostafizur Rahman. On Tuesday night, police arrested Sumon, 24, of Chandangati village in connection with the abduction. Following his confessional statement police recovered the body in the morning and sent it to local hospital morgue for autopsy. Later police arrested four others -- Ali Alam, 18, Salauddin, 20, Babu alias Bappi, 24, and Russel, 18 -- from different villages. In Jamalpur, a tribunal on Monday convicted a man and sentenced him to 14 years rigorous imprisonment in a kidnapping case. The tribunal also fined Sabuj Mia alias Apon, son of Mukka Fakir of village Kampapur in Sadar upazila, Tk 20,000, in default to suffer three months RI more, reports UNB. According to the prosecution, Sabuj along with his accomplices kidnapped Sharmin Akter, 15, daughter of Samsher Ali of the same village and her aunt Kazuli, 16, from Malgudam road in the district town on September 27, 2009. Shamsher Ali filed a case with Sadar police station in this connection and Melandaha police rescued the victims and arrested Sabuj on the same night. After examining the witnesses and records Judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal M Motahar Hossain handed down the verdict in the crowded courtroom.
