14 held in 4 districts on charge of teasing

Law enforcers yesterday arrested 14 youths on charge of teasing school and college girls in Pabna, Kushtia, Lalmonirhat and Thakurgaon districts. Of them, 11 were arrested in Pabna and one each was arrested in three other districts. Our Pabna correspondent reported that police arrested 11 youths while they were teasing school and college girls in front of different educational institutions in the town at noon. The arrestees are Mizanur Rahman Mithu, 17, Nayem Hasan, 14, Nahid Kawser, 20, SM Sajib, 19, Monwar Hossain Dablu, 20, Sajedur Rahman, 20, Sabir Rahman, 18, Hasibur Rahman, 18, Mizanur Rahman, 19, Monirul Islam, 18, and Sultan Mahmud, 19. Police said they picked up the 11 from in front of Pabna Government Girls School, Pabna Women's College and Ahmed Rafiq Girls School. They hail from Komorpur, Banglavazar, Koladi, Shalgaria and Radhanagar village in Pabna Sadar upazila, and Bhathsala and Ulat villages under Sujanagar upazila of the district. Meanwhile, teachers and students of different educational institutions of the district yesterday formed a human chain on Pabna Town Hall premise demanding punishment to the killers of Mizanur Rashid and Chanpa Rani Bhowmik. Hundreds of protesters joined the human chain programme that continued for an hour from 11:00am. They urged the government to take measures to stop stalking and enact a stringent law to punish the stalkers. In Kushtia, police arrested a stalker at Mothurapur in Daulatpur upazila yesterday morning for assaulting a schoolgirl on Monday, reports our correspondent. According to police, Shamim, 22, son of Shahidul Islam, and Sentu, 20, son of Abu Bakar of Mothurapur area, teased Kona Ara Khatun, 14, a class VII student of Mothurapur High School, while she was returning home from the school at around 3:30pm. As Kona protested, Shamim slapped her and left the scene along with Sentu. Kona's father Bazlur Rahman of the same area filed a case against the two with Daulatpur Police Station in the evening. Police arrested Sentu at Mothurapur Bazar while Shamim has been absconding since the filing of the case. Police said they are looking for main accused Shamim. According to our Lalmonirhat correspondent, police arrested a youth in Doikhowa area under Hatibandha upazila while he along with his accomplices were teasing a girl on her way to Doikhowa High School yesterday noon. The arrestee is Saddam Hossain, 18, son of Delwar Hossain of Gachulka village in the upazila. Police said one Mujibur Rahman, father of the girl, filed a complaint with Hatibandha Police Station on Monday night against Saddam for teasing his (Mujibur) daughter on her way to school at around 11:00am on Monday. Police yesterday took position at a secret place near the school and caught Saddam while he and his accomplices were teasing the girl in front of the school. Saddam's accomplices, however, managed to flee. Police said they are trying to arrest Saddam's accomplices. Our Thakurgaon correspondent adds: Law enforcers yesterday arrested a stalker in front of Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital on charge of stalking a group of female students of Salondar College and physically assaulted one of them as she protested his evil acts. The arrestee is Shohag, 22, son of Reazul Islam of Salonder village under the same upazila. Police said Shohag teased Shima, a student of Salonder Degree College, and her classmates while they were sitting on the college ground at around 2:30pm on Monday. As Shima protested, Shohag physically assaulted her. Fellows took Shima to Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital where she was given first aid. Shima, daughter of Joynal Abedin of Shantinagar village in Thakurgaon Municipal area, filed a case accusing Shohag with Thakurgaon Police Station on Monday evening.
