Bombs, explosives seized from pirates' boat

Members of Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) recovered grenades, bombs, explosives including gun-powder, ammunitions and bomb making materials from a mechanised boat used allegedly by Indian pirates at Talbaria point of Dakatir canal in the Sundarbans Sunday night. During the raid, the pirates fired three to four gunshots at the BDR who chased them, BDR sources said. However none could be arrested as the pirates entered deep forest leaving the mechanised boat there, they said. The BDR recovered two country-made grenades, four bombs, ten cartridges, 4 kg explosive, 144 chokolate bombs, 2 packets of gun powder, 188 pieces marble stone, iron rod and others materials from the boat. BDR also recovered a note book from the boat having names and addresses of two people of South 24 Parganas district in India. Meanwhile Rapid Action Battalion and DB police in Gaibandha and Jessore on Sunday and early Thursday recovered firearms and Chinese axes from three villages. Two shutter guns and two Chinese axes were recovered from Biswas Haldia village in Sadullapur upazila at Gaibandha Sunday, reports our correspondent. Acting on a trip off, a team of Rab-5 raided an area adjacent to the house of one Shahadat Hossain and recovered the arms, which were left in an abandoned condition. None was arrested as the criminals fled the scene sensing presence of Rab. In Benapole, Jessore, members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) recovered two firearms and two bullets from Porabari village early Thursday. Rab-6 sources said, on a secret information that a gang of criminals were holding a clandestine meeting at a bamboo grove of the village they raided the area late at night. But sensing the presence of the elite force the criminals managed to flee the scene. Later, the law enforcers recovered two shutter guns and two bullets from the spot. Detective Branch of police arrested three people along with arms, bullets and drugs from Chougachha upazila of the district on Sunday. DB police said, on secret information, they launched a drive and recovered a foreign made pistol and six bullets from the house of one Joynur at Kabilpur village.
