50 hurt as AL, BNP clash
At least 50 people, including 5 journalists, were injured in a clash between ruling Awami League and opposition BNP in front of fire service office at Borhanuddin upazila yesterday morning.
Sources said the clash ensued at about 11am when the two rival groups failed to hold their scheduled meetings at Borhanuddin Bazaar as the upazila administration imposed Section 144 from 6am to 6pm yesterday.
Of the injured, 18 were admitted to different hospitals and clinics of the upazila.
In Laxmipur, at least 15 people were injured in a clash between two factions of BCL over a cricket bat at a local bazaar in Sadar upazila yesterday.
Witnesses said an altercation ensued between Jabed and Delwar groups over missing of a cricket bat at noon.
Later, both groups equipped with lethal weapons attacked each other at local Maju Chowdhury's market that left 15 people injured from both sides.
A motorbike was torched during the clash.
In Munshiganj, at least six people, including women, were injured in a clash between two rival groups over land dispute at Gopal Nagar village in Sadar upazila on Friday.
Police said there was a long standing dispute between Nasir Uddin and Sabur Uddin of the village over a piece of land.
Local people arranged arbitration to settle the matter Friday afternoon.
At one stage, supporters of both Nasir and Sabur locked in a clash during the arbitration and vandalised Sabur's house, leaving six people from both sides injured.
