Meet 13-point demand for dev of greater Khulna

Greater Khulna Development Action Coordination Committee (GKDACC) yesterday formed a human chain at Picture Palace Cinema Hall intersection in the city yesterday to press for its 13-point demand for development of greater Khulna. The demands are construction of embankments in the Aila affected areas and rehabilitation of the homeless people, completion of the project for supply of gas through pipelines, modernisation of Mongla seaport, construction of a modern rail station in Khulna, implementation of the project for installation of a 300 megawatt power plant in Khulna, reopening of all closed jute mills and Khulna Newsprint Mill, development of Sundarbans-based tourism, installation of second submarine cable landing station at Mongla, supply of safe drinking water in the south-western region, construction of IT village, reopening of Dada Match Factory, construction of Shilpakala Academy in Khulna city and modernisation of Bhomra land port of Satkhira district. Leaders and activists of BNP, Jubo League, Workers Party, Jatiya Party, socio-cultural and non-governmental organisations and leaders of business community joined the human chain programme. The programme was followed by a rally at the venue with President of GKDACC Alhaj Liakat Ali in the chair Speakers urged the government to complete construction of embankments in the Aila affected upazilas of Khulna, Bagerhat and Satkhira districts on top priority basis to redress sufferings of the homeless people and to implement the projects for their rehabilitation. Liakat Ali in his speech urged the prime minister to meet the demands for development of greater Khulna. The rally was addressed, among others, by Editor of The Daily Tribune Begum Ferdausi Ali, Executive Director of Rupantar Swapan Guha, Chairperson of Khulna Nagorik Forum Sheikh Abdul Quaiyum, jute exporter Sheikh Abdul Mannan, former BNP lawmaker M Nurul Islam Dadu, workers Party leader Mozammel Hossain, National Awami Party (Bhasani) leader Kaikobad Ali and Jubo League leader Shafiqul Islam Palash.
