Wave of protest continues, fellows cry for justice

Teachers accompanied by people from all walks of life brought out processions in Rajshahi and Natore yesterday demanding exemplary punishment to the criminals who killed Mizanur for protesting their stalking female students. Teachers and staff of different educational institutions brought out a procession in Rajshahi city demanding punishment to the killers of Mizanur, reports our Rahshahi University correspondent. After marching different roads of the city, they held a rally at Saheb Bazar Zero Point. Terming Mizanur as a great example of bravery, speakers at the rally called upon the government to take immediate action against the killers. They urged appointing Mizanur's wife as teacher at any college as she has required qualification for the position. They also called upon the government to declare October 12 as 'Eve-teasing Prevention Day' as Mizaur was attacked on that day by the delinquents for protesting their stalking. Raich Uddin, president of Bangladesh College Teachers Association Rajshahi district unit, Shafiqur Rahman Badshah, president of the association's Rajshahi city unit and its general secretary Aminur addressed the meeting, among others. Stalkers critically injured Mizanur Rashid, a lecturer of chemistry at Lokmanpur College in Bagatipara upazila of Natore district, on October 12 as he had protested their teasing of female students. He died on Sunday at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital. He was laid to rest at his family graveyard at Chawk Laxmipur village in Charghat upazila of Rajshahi district on Monday. Our Natore Correspondent adds: Bangladesh College Teachers Association's Natore unit, Mohila Parishad and Bangladesh Shikkha Potisthan Kormachari Federation jointly organised a silent procession and formed a human chain at Kanaikhali old bus stand in the town yesterday demanding immediate arrest and trial of the killers of college teacher Mizanur Rashid. After the procession convener of college teachers association in Natore Abdur Razzak, joint convener Haidar Ali and district unit President of Mohila Parishad Dilara Begum Parul made speeches, demanding exemplary punishment to the criminals. Dhumketu, an anti-stalking organisation of Joypurhat district, also formed a human chain in front of Natore Press Club at around 11:00am.
