Bid to abduct software engr foiled, 5 arrested
Police with help of some pedestrians foiled an attempt to kidnap a software engineer for ransom from Nirala residential area under Khulna Sadar Police station on Monday.
The victim is Nahidul Islam Romel, 32, chief executive officer (CEO) of Pranon Private Limited Company.
Police arrested five kidnappers and seized a rented microbus from them.
The arrestees are Saiful Islam Ratan, 45, Sayed Kawser alias Bomaru Shumon, 39, Shafiqul Jahan Mukul, 40, Faisal Hossain, 37, and driver of the microbus Abul Bashar, 40.
Being informed by the residents of Nirala, police chased the microbus with help of some pedestrians and later stopped it at Moilapota intersection.
Officer-in-charhe of Sadar Police Station Munirul Gias quoted software engineer Romel as saying that kidnappers picked him up from Nirala Residential Area and demanded Tk two lakh from him. They also beat him up for refusing to pay the amount.
Of the arrestees, Kawser alias Bomaru Shumon is an armed cadre of an underground organisation, police said.
They rented the microbus from Penguin rent-a-car service at KDA avenue under Khulna Sadar Police station, he added.
Romel lodged a case agaist the five, accusing them of kidnapping him for ransom.
