Hearing on charge framing against 59 on Feb 22

The Special Court-12 yesterday fixed February 22, 2011 for hearing on charge framing against 59 of the 86 BDR mutineers of 23rd Rifles Battalion, Khulna. The same court also fixed March 5, 2011 for hearing on charge framing against the rest 27. Sector Commander of Rajshahi BDR Col Ehia Azam Khan, chief of the court, fixed the dates. Two other members are Lt Col Gazi Mohammad Khalid Hossain and Lt Commander Muhammad Touhidul Islam. Major Elahi Bux of Khulna BDR sector headquarters acted as prosecutor while Deputy Attorney General Shasanka Shekhar Sarker, advocate Manzur Alam and advocate Rezaul Karim were present to assist the prosecutor. The accused now detained in the Khulna district Jail were sued on charge of mutiny with Khalishpur Police Station on May 12, 2009. They are also accused of a sedition case filed against them on April 29 this year. The case is under trial in the Court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate. The trial of BDR mutiny began on October 25 at 23rd Rifles Battalion Headquarters at Goalkhali under Khalishpur Police Station. Our Dinajpur correspondent reported that ten BDR men of Phulbari Battalion were yesterday arrested as the special Court-13 issued an arrest warrant against them for their involvement in the mutiny on February 25 and 26 last year. Assistant Nayek Subedar Md Asaduzzaman of 40 Rifles Battalion read out allegation against the mutineers as a complainant. After hearing, the Special Court-13 led by Colonel Saleh Ahmad, Sector Commander of Dinajpur Sector, issued an arrest warrant against 10 more BDR mutineers. Other members are Lt Col Mahaful Alam and Major Didar Al Latif. The arrested BDR men were handed over to the police who sent them to Dinajpur jail. The complainant alleged that the BDR personnel looted arms from armoury and revolted against their officers on February 25 and 26 last year, expressing solidarity with the mutineers of BDR headquarters at Pilkhana in the capital. Biswanath Roy was present on behalf of the attorney general while Md Baharul Islam and Md Rafiqul Islam Mithu were present as special prosecutor.
