Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) rescued from abductors six children from Terbhagdi village under Madaripur Sadar upazila and arrested one person in this connection on Sunday night. A Satkhira court yesterday sentenced seven people to 14 years' rigorous imprisonment (RI) for trafficking a teenage girl to India. A Correspondent reports from Madaripur: Acting on a tip, Rab conducted drives at different places and rescued six children from a auto-rickshaw at Terbhagdi village at around 8:30pm on Sunday, Rab-8 Company Commander Flight Lt Shamim Sarker said. They also arrested an abductor while two others managed to flee. The arrestee is Abul Kalam, 40. The rescued children are -- Jibon, 5, Naima, 7, Mina, 8, Johny, 8, Masum, 6, and Shayan, 8 -- all from West Khagdi village under the municipality area of the district. A case was lodged with Sadar police station in this connection. Our Satkhira Correspondent adds: Women and Children Repression Prevention Court in Satkhira yesterday sentenced seven people to 14 years' rigorous imprisonment (RI) for trafficking a teenage girl to India. Judge SM Rezanur Rahman of the court also fined them Tk 5,000 each, in default they are to suffer three months more RI, court sources said. The convict are Mosharraf Hossain, Amirul Islam and Shahin Sardar of Reyui village, Azharul Islam of Aichpara village and Kabil Uddin, Mithu Sardar and Yunus Ali of Hawalkhali village in Sadar upazila. The convicts brought Ayesha Khatun, 18, daughter of Akbar Ali of village Reyui from her house assuring her of providing job abroad on January 2 in 2006 but later they trafficked her to India, goes the prosecution. Since then the girl has remained missing, it adds. The victim's brother-in-law Anisur Rahman of the same village filed a case with Sadar police station against the seven people. After investigation police submitted charge sheet against the accused. All the convicts were present during pronouncement of the verdict.
