One beaten to death in Noakhali
One person was beaten to death and seven others injured by a gang of criminals at West Maijdee village under Sadar upazila of the district on Saturday night.
The deceased was identified as Mohammad Hossain, 60, of the village.
The injured are Shakil, 28, Monju, 20, Rubel, 18, Nazma, 25, Runa, 20, Tahera Begum, 50, and Sajib, 25.
Police and family sources said a mobile set was stolen at the village three days ago. Local criminals Kala Hazari, Badal and Rubel accused Shakil, son--in-law of Mohammad Hossain of stealing the mobile set and attacked the house of Mohammad Hossain at around 11:00pm.
They entered the house by breaking open the door and beat up Mohammad Hossain and other family members. Hossain died instantly.
On information, Sudharam police rushed to the spot, recovered the body and sent it to Noakhali hospital morgue for autopsy.
Tahera Begum, wife of the deceased lodged a case with Sudharam police station in this connection.
