One gets life for abducting three schoolboys
A Chapainawabagnj court yesterday sentenced a man to life imprisonment for abducting three schoolboys in 2005.
Judge of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Arup Kumar Goswami pronounced the verdict.
The convict is Tofazzal Hossain, 28, son of Abdul of Satuwill village under Niamatpur upazila of Naogaon district. The court also fined him Tk 20,000, in default, he is suffer another year in jail.
The judge acquitted two other accused --Mohammad Selim, 32, son of Abbas Ali, and Mohammad Mahidur, 30, son of Faizuddin of Balutungi village under Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj district as charges brought against them could not be proved.
According to the prosecution, Tofazzal, Selim and Mahidur kidnapped Nadim Hossain, 15, son of Mozammel Haque, Sohel Rana, 14, son of Lal Mohammad, and Zamal, 15, son of Almas of Balutungi village, from Baroroshia village in Shibganj upazila when the three were going to a private tutor at around 3:30pm on June 5, 2005.
The kidnapper took the boys ton Dhaka and confined them to a room at Shyamoli. After a day, the boys managed to escape and informed their guardians. Being informed, their guardians went to Dhaka and rescued them from Shyamoli area on June 6, 2005.
On June 9, local people caught Tofazzal, one of the abductor, at Monakasha Bazar in Shibgonj upazila on June 9 and handed him over to Shibgonj police.
Nadim's father Mozammel Haque filed a case against Tofazzal, Selim, Mahidur with Shibganj Police Station under Women and Children Repression Prevention Act on June 9, 2005.
Sub Inspector mahfujur Rahman of Shibgonj Police Station submitted the charge sheet against the three abductors on September 1, 2005.
