Locals gouge out eyes of 2 'robbers' in Bagerhat

Local people caught three alleged robbers and gouged out eyes of two of them near Jielmari Bridge in Rampal upazila of Bagerhat district on Friday night while law enforcers arrested two drug peddlers in Benapole the same night. In Rampal upazila of Bagerhat, locals said they challenged three robbers while they were going to Mongla riding a motorbike at around 9:00pm. "As they tried to flee, we chased the three and caught them, they said. They are Binoy Mandol, 26, son of Krishnapada Mandol, Saheb Ali Sheikh, 27, son of Jalil Sheikh, and Alamin sheikh, 28, son of Abdul Hye Sheikh of the upazila. Locals beat up the three and gouged out eyes of Binoy and Saheb Ali, They also torched the motorbike, according to UNB. On information, police rushed to the spot and arrested the three along with a foreign made gun. The three were later admitted to Khulna Medical College Hospital. Our correspondent from Benapole reported that two drug peddlers were arrested with 202 bottles of phensidyl at Doulatpur village under Benapole Police Station at midnight on Friday. The arrestees are Nazrul islam, 30, and Asaduzaman Ripon, 39. Acting on a tip-off, a team of Rab-6 raided the house of Nazrul at the village and arrested Nazrul and Asad along with the drugs. The arrestees confessed to their involvement in drug peddling in the area. A case was filed against the two under Narcotics Control Act with Benapole Police Station.
