A Pabna court yesterday granted bail to a Jubo League leader in one of the two cases filed in connection with the attack on government officials during a recent recruitment test in the district town. Senior Judicial Magistrate of Speedy Trial Tribunal of Pabna, Md Parvez Shahriar, granted the bail to Sazzad Rahman Sajal, Pabna district Jubo League relief and welfare affairs secretary, on account of his illness following a petition filed by his counsel. The court, however, refused the bail prayers of 25 others in the same case. Earlier on October 13, the same court granted bail to Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader Santosh Kumar Hawladar and refused 26 others accused in the case. Two cases were filed with Pabna Sadar Police Station accusing more than 100 people, including 31 leaders and workers of Awami League and its front organisations for attacking administration officials, vandalising their cars and obstructing police from performing their duties during a recruitment test on September 17. Twenty-one accused of the cases surrendered before the judicial magistrate court on September 26 while four others on October 6. Police also arrested five people soon after the incident. The same court, on October 6, rejected bail petitions of the accused 29 Awami League, Jubo League and BCL leaders and activists.
