Attack on puja mandop in Barisal, 5 injured
Gang leader arrested
Five including a female Ansar were injured as a gang attacked a puja Mandop in Muladi upazila of the district on Saturday night.
Police and witnesses said shirt of one Kharul Peyada was slightly burnt after a spark fall on some youths during Aroti puja at Radha Gobinda Mandir puja mandop at Muladi Bandar at around 9:00 pm.
The youths became agitated and asked the mandir committee to stop Durga Puja. When local people tried to settle the matter, a gang led by Khairul attacked the puja mandop, leaving five people, including female Ansar Munni Begum, were injured.
Police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. They arrested Khairul Peyada, 18, son of Majid Peyada of Terochar village under the upazila.
Khirul was produced in the Judicial Magistrate Court that sent him to jail. Amiruzzaman Amir, office-in-charge of Muladi Police Station, said Khairul was to jail under Section 54 of penal code. No case was filed with the police station concerned as of 6:00pm yesterday.
